This year’s World Health Day is marked by two major global events: the One Health Summit (5–7 April), hosted by the Government of France, and the inaugural Global Forum of WHO Collaborating Centres (7–9 April), bringing together scientific institutions from over 80 countries.
The theme, “Together for Health, Standing with Science,” reminds us of the need for evidence-based approaches in addressing today’s health challenges, as well as the importance of promoting accurate health information—especially in an era of widespread misinformation. It also underscores the need to support systems built on research and innovation.Knowledge, they say, is power. Scientific knowledge is a vital tool for preventing disease, improving healthcare delivery, and strengthening responses to current and emerging health issues.
Health encompasses our physical, mental, and social wellbeing. Yet, millions of people continue to face barriers to accessing quality healthcare, reliable information, and safe living conditions. Addressing these challenges requires collective responsibility. Governments, healthcare providers, communities, and individuals all have a role to play in ensuring access to care, promoting healthy environments, and building inclusive and equitable health systems.
As we mark World Health Day, let us commit to working together, standing with science, and building a future where health and wellbeing are accessible to all.
